Historical background
Historic Friuli grape variety, once known as Tocai. The name change-which occurred as a result of a dispute with Hungary over the name "Tokaji"-strengthened the link with the territory and its enhancement. The earliest traces of cultivation date back to at least the 18th century, but it was after World War II that Friulian wine experienced a real renaissance, thanks to the efforts of local winegrowers and the establishment of Friuli Venezia Giulia as one of the best areas for white wine production in Italy. Today Friulano is a symbol of regional wine identity, prized for its elegance and authenticity.
